2014 Season - Week 20
BUMSBowl XIX
Ron will play in his first BUMSBowl a year after he was defeated in the Championship round by Aaron 23-26. He took a first half 18-8 lead over Wayne and as Andrew Luck and Coby Fleener were shut out he comfortably won 24-14. In the other semi-final Daz lead by four at halftime but David Stamp watched his QB Tom Brady throw three scores while Daz’s RB Dan Herron was held out of the endzone. As a result Karori came back from 12-8 down to win 23-18. It will be Stampy’s second trip to the BUMSBowl, previously defeating Wayne 20-17 in BUMSBowl XII seven years ago. The best team you could have selected would have put up 62 points for $6.5m (Wilson 10pts $2m, Crosby 16pts $2m, Blount 18pts $0.5m, Tipton 6pts $0.5m, Kearse 6 $0.5m, and one either Cobb or Gronkowski 6pts at $1m). So it’s Gang Green versus The Visitors for BUMSBowl XIX. Prices will be out in next week’s newsletter and you’ll both need to get your teams in by noon Saturday January 31st. First come first served but wait for the prices gents.
The 2014 BUMS Book of Playoff Poetry
You’ve seen some of the emails, but not all of them, so they have been turned into a best seller! Forget Fifty Shades of Gray or Harry Potter - see the attached, very entertaining guys.
All-BUMS Voting
Don’t forget to vote for your favourite players of 2014, thanks to those who have already supplied them. Remember I need (in order) your top 3 Running Backs and top 3 Receivers plus your number 1 & 2 Quarterbacks, Kickers and Coaches. Vote for your players based on BUMS points (see attached), how much you enjoy them, what they meant to their BUMS/NFL team or just the fact they were on your roster. The deadline is Saturday January 31st but please get your votes in as soon as possible. Previous League MVPs include last year’s winner RB Marshawn Lynch, Adrian Peterson (MVP in 2012 and 2009), 2011’s MVP Tight End Rob Gronkowski, 2010 winner Arian Foster and receiver Larry Fitzgerald who was MVP in 2008.
BUMS on ProBowl and Superbowl Seats
The ProBowl is played this Sunday (a week before the Superbowl) and we will be meeting at Johnnies on Monday from 6pm to see it. Let him know if you are going, he’ll be running his ProBowl silliness game. Meanwhile the Superbowl will feature the two number one seeds and some great matchups including Brady & Bellicheat against the Legion of Boom and Pete Carroll (who the Pats sacked as their Head Coach after he took them to the playoffs two out of three years and had a 27-21 record). The best player at his position Rob Gronkowski is going up against Cam Chancellor and on the other side of the ball Marshawn Lynch will try his Beast-mode against 325 pound Vince Wilfork. Superbowl XLIX is late on Sunday February 1st & as always Cheryl will be cooking a USA feast so let us know if you can make it. It will be an unbiased meal of Fresh Pacific Fish from Pikes Market (Seattle) with Boston Baked Beans (New England) – or maybe not. We’ll be playing all the usual games, more information on them next week.
